A Survey on Turnover Patterns of Nurses and Nurse Aides Employed in Hospitals and Health Centers(1975.1.1~1976.6.30.)

Abstract
This survey was conducted in order to grasp the turnover patterns of nurses and nurse aides. Questionnaires were sent out the hospitals and health centers of the country and obtained the responses from 59 hospitals and 87 health centers. The results are summarized as follows.
1. Nurses:
1) The proportion of vacancy at health centers (29.7¡36.5%) was ten times as high as that of hospitals, thought it had been decreasing.
2) The resignation rate of hospitals was much higher than that of health centers, especially, as for the resignation caused by emigration, the former was twenty times higher than the latter.
3) The concentration tendency in the metropolitan areas was more conspicuous in the case of health centers than hospitals: The vacancy rate of regular nurse position at health centers in the metropolitan areas was almost the same with that at hospitals, but in rural health centers as much as 10.9%.
2. Nurse Aides:
1) The places of employment for nurse aides were confined within a small number of general hospitals, local clinics and rural health centers.
The vacancy rate of hospitals was no less than 36.5%, however, health centers were 17.8% over filled.
2) As for the proportion of resignation, nurse aides were generally lower than the nurses and the reasons for resignation, they went far beyond nurses in the percent of resignation caused by the other reasons (over 70%).
Therefore, the loss of manpower caused by emigration was extremely small.
